This is NOT a puppies for sale website. Our dogs are first and foremost our family companions. However, we enjoy training our dogs for show, obedience, water and draft work.

Heart of America Newfoundland Rescue, Inc (HANR) is a non-profit organization recognized by the AKC-sanctioned Newfoundland Club of America to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of Newfoundland dogs.
The purpose of HANR’s program is to rescue unwanted or homeless Newfoundland dogs and place them in good homes. We work within the guidelines of the Newfoundland Club of America’s Rescue Committee. It is our belief that a Newfoundland dog should not be acquired casually or disposed of lightly but sometimes an owner’s circumstances change and the Newf is found to be unsuited to his/her present home. It is on these rare occasions that we try to find a permanent new home where the Newfoundland will be loved and respected for its unique combination of qualities.
A Newf is a very large commitment and will be part of your family for the next several years, therefore, it is very important that you understand exactly what owning and caring for one means. Newfs are wonderful dogs but they do require a lot of time, dedication and lots of love…love that they give back two-fold.
HANR maintains a waiting list of pre-screened adoptive homes that are interested in acquiring a Newfoundland dog. All Newfs placed by HANR are evaluated for temperament, vet checked, and altered prior to being placed. Adoptions are made on a match basis; the background and needs of the Newfoundland must match those of the prospective owners. While an adoption fee is charged, it does not cover all of the costs involved in operating our rescue service so donations are accepted at any time.
Please make Donation Checks payable to: HANR.

Why Adopt?
Please consider rescuing a dog. There are many advantages to adopting a Newf as opposed to buying one. Every dog deserves a loving home and our rescues are no exception. Our foster dogs are evaluated for health, temperament and suitability for placement in a variety of homes.
HANR is committed to each dog we place for the life of that dog and our members are always available in case assistance is needed. We do screen potential adoptive homes and require home checks before placing a dog permanently.
Surrender
If you are considering surrendering a purebred Newf, please don't hesitate to contact us. We would be happy to help you in your decision process and can provide ideas for alternatives, if you would prefer to keep your dog. We understand that each situation is unique and we will try to help you find the most compassionate solution. Please contact HANC Rescue.
How You Can Help
HANR needs volunteers in many capacities. providing a permanent loving home, fostering a Newf in need, transporting, grooming, performing home checks, or donating to rescue, If you can help, please contact HANC Rescue.
Fostering
HANR is always looking for great foster homes. If you can't adopt a dog long-term, consider fostering one. We temporarily place dogs in foster homes in a similar fashion to adopting them and can provide assistance with training, health, and grooming if need be. You supply the love, daily necessities and a stable home environment.
More resources
The HANR Committee happily works with other NCA Regional Club Rescue Committees. The more contacts we have, the more likely we are to match each Newfoundland dog with its appropriate family.
