Titus came to our home in summer of 2004 (as a foster). His owner was very sad to give Titus up, but due to pregnancy & medical illness she had no other choice. So she did the best thing for him by calling the Newf rescue. Image

Marty and I went out to Smithville to pick him up. His back hips were not in the best shape but he was able to get into Marty’s car. He seemed to enjoy the ride back to Blue Springs, although Marty & I had to deal with the smell. Even though he had already been shaved and bathed, he had a smell from a bad skin condition. His hair had to be shaved since it was matted to him from romping around in ponds. He was 3 years old and weighed around 135 lbs.

Titus spent 4 months in our home. In that time he walked in the Lewis & Clark Expedition parade in Atchison, KS, July 4th. He spent the rest of that day along with (our other Newf), Maximus, being petted and loved on by everyone at the event.

Titus soon found a new home, it was very hard for us to give him up, but we knew he was getting a loving family. Being our first foster, Titus held a special place in our hearts. Titus was with his new family for about 2 years when his mom, Deanna, passed away unexpectedly.  It was a certain blow to the family and, I’m sure, for Titus. Deanna was a stay at home mom so Titus had grown very attached to her.Image

We were asked if we could take Titus back since the family had to sell their home and move to a smaller place where Titus was not able to go. We found out that Titus had heartworm and gained about 25 lbs since we last had him. Not sure of how sick Titus was with the heartworm, and just recently having to put down (our oldest dog), Cujo, I didn’t know if I could watch another dog get sick and die. After long talks with Peggy & Marty & the vets we decided to bring Titus back into our home. We treated him monthly for heartworm & gave him glucosamine supplements for his hips.

I am please to say Titus’ heartworm test came back negative. He is doing well and is here to stay.

Meet Titus!
