These are practice sessions, not classes, for those who are training toward water titles. It is not water play time for the dogs (although there is some play time scheduled after you’re done working).

There is no instructor for the sessions, but everyone is expected to help other the other trainers by taking turns at stewarding, drowning and rowing. There will be experienced members to help with training for new members.

A recommended training manual for the sessions is Judi Adler’s Water Work, Water Play. It’s available from the author at Sweetbay Newfoundlands. You can download the NCA Water Test Rules (which explains all the exercises) by going to "Working Dogs" at the NCA website. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with these rules and training methods before bringing your dog to your first beach session.
