Each year, with permission from the NCA, HANC offers NCA Water Tests for dogs and handlers wishing to get their water titles.
The water tests consist of exercises designed to highlight the Newfoundland instinct for water rescue and demonstrate the teamwork between the handler and dog. There are three levels of tests, each with it's own, increasingly difficult exercises. Exercises at the Junior (WD) level may appear to be deceptively easy but hours of work go into perfecting each exercise and channeling the dogs natural instincts. The Senior (WRD) expands or the Junior level exercises by adding more difficult tasks. At the Excellent (WRDX) level, the exercises change completely and are exceptionally difficult. Each dog must pass the previous level before attempting the next one. Dogs at the Excellent level are pre-tested for endurance.
Guests are most welcome at our water tests. We do ask that you not bring your own dog and that you are careful not to interfere with dogs which are testing at the moment. Please check in with Hospitality where you will find members who are happy to answer any questions. Come and watch these amazing dogs at work!
Rules and information about the NCA Water Work tests can be found on the NCA website under Working Dogs.
